The Speedglas G5 01TW Heavy Duty Flip Up Welding Helmet with Adflo PAPR is the latest release in the G5 (Generation 5) Speedglas range. The TW stands for Tack Welding (different to the G5-01VC which stands for Variable Colour).
Like the G5-01VC, this helmet is designed for heavy welders and has a range of new features not previously seen, including the ability to direct airflow to different areas of the helmet, slimmer design easier for confined spaces, additional comfort features in the harness and an optional light for the front of the helmet.
The G5-01TW also comes with a range of new spares making it a very versatile helmet and gives the welder the ability to either reduce the weight/size of the helmet, or increase their protection by adding extra head protection.

"TW" in the Speedglas G5-01TW stands for Tack Welding. The G5-01TW includes a dedicated Tack Mode, which is specifically designed to reduce eye fatigue for welders who perform a high volume of short, repetitive tack welds throughout their shift. This mode establishes an intermittent shade (shade 5) instead of dropping from dark shade to shade 3 after every time an arc is struck, reducing dilation of the pupils and fatigue based on this. This distinguishes it from the G5-01VC (Variable Colour), which instead offers three colour modes for enhanced weld visibility. Tack Mode is a practical feature for fabricators and boilermakers who spend most of their day tack welding.
Yes. The G5-01TW features a heavy-duty flip-up mechanism, with a clear grinding visor underneath the auto-darkening welding lens. This allows welders and boilermakers to quickly switch between welding and grinding tasks without removing the entire helmet - a major productivity advantage. The detachable lens design also means you can remove the auto-darkening component when grinding to significantly reduce the overall weight of the helmet.
